This prime piece of Australia's/Tasmania's colonial real estate is for sale for the first time in thirty years. The property extends over approx 0.35 ha (just under an acre) in the centre of George Town at the mouth of the Tamar River, Northern Tasmania. It incorporates three main buildings (see separate file for more detail/photos) surrounded by well developed formal and native gardens:
Grand Georgian home (built probably in the 1830's but possibly earlier, one of the largest Georgian townhouses in Tasmania, see main website for more detail). Restored 1969-71 and operated as a museum house since but would make such a fine residence. It has many original features including pine and cedar staircase, cedar panelling and mantel pieces. There are also eight turn of the century landscape paintings on door panels. With an area of approximately 450m2 (+ attic rooms above wings about 100m2 and verandah about 50m2), it contains some 13 rooms in main block plus adjoining stone kitchen and large pantry, laundry & bathroom, plus two separate rooms in the triple-brick wings. See the plan for more information.
The Restaurant (approx 200 m2) built in 1975 (+ new customer bathrooms added 1989). Constructed of brick and featuring original Victorian french windows and door surround, pine beams and panelling. It is fully licensed, seats up to 100 people (and more in garden) and presently is open daily for lunches and teas though prebooked bus groups, external corporate catering and meetings/weddings/functions are the main source of business. The restaurant comes fitted out for ongoing business with chairs, tables, cutlery/crockery, coolroom, drinks fridge, 3 freezers, oven, 3 microwaves, dishwasher and glass washer.
- Cojoined residence and self contained flat. Original 2 br residence built in 1973 of brick, featuring original Victorian windows, oregon panelling and beams. Separate 1br brick flat (Nanna's Cottage) built in 1980 features pine panelling. It has been operated for the past 8 years as B&B accommodation (RACT rating 3½ stars).
- Other items include brick toilet block, 2 timber utility sheds, the famous 'two holer', garden furniture, spotlighting, signage, security system, garden watering systems.
- Souvenir shop stock (around $A20000 at cost)
- An option on the the adjoining block of land with plenty of room for expansion (approx 0.3 Ha) is also available.

The Grove is located in the centre of George Town on the north coast of Tasmania, at the mouth of the Tamar valley, land of fine natural produce and natural features, good beaches, a pleasant climate, and the Tasmanian port for Bass Strait Catamaran services. The wine route map is as good a locality map as any [though 80k]. See the following links for much more information on The Grove and George Town:
